About server hard drives and ssds at Server Hub

Enterprise drives for servers and storage arrays: high-capacity 3.5-inch hard drives for bulk and backup storage, 10K and 15K 2.5-inch SAS drives for transactional load, and SAS, SATA and NVMe SSDs for virtual machines and databases. Every drive in this range is certified-refurbished — tested and reconditioned before sale — a lower-cost way into enterprise-grade storage.

Matching matters more than headline capacity. Confirm the interface your RAID controller or HBA supports, the bay form factor and the caddy your chassis takes; mixing drive types inside one RAID set costs performance. For SSDs, endurance matters too: read-intensive drives suit boot volumes and read-heavy data, while mixed-use and write-intensive drives suit databases and caching.

Prices are in rand with VAT included, and each product page states its condition and warranty. New desktop and NAS drives sit in our storage department; caddies, rails and controllers are in server parts; and the servers they go into are in refurbished servers. Send us the server model and we will confirm the exact drive and caddy.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SAS and SATA drives?

SAS drives use a dual-port, full-duplex interface built for servers, with deeper command queues and multipath failover; SATA drives are simpler and cheaper per terabyte. A SAS RAID controller runs both, but a SATA-only controller cannot run SAS drives. Choose SAS for busy databases and arrays, SATA for bulk capacity.

Will a server drive fit my server?

Check three things: the interface your controller supports (SAS, SATA or NVMe), the form factor (2.5- or 3.5-inch) and the drive carrier. Hot-swap servers need the maker’s caddy for that generation. Tell us the server model and we will confirm the drive and caddy before you buy.

Are refurbished server drives reliable?

Enterprise drives are rated for continuous duty and far heavier workloads than desktop drives, and certified-refurbished drives are tested before sale. As with any drive, run RAID with redundancy and keep backups. Each product page states the condition and the warranty.
