With 52 cores (104 threads) at a 2.00GHz base clock, boosting to 3.80GHz, the Intel Xeon Platinum 8470 carries 105MB of cache and is rated at 350W. Part of the 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors line, it uses its platform socket and addresses up to 4TB of memory at 4800MHz DDR5.
Per-core software licensing makes core count a cost decision as well as a performance one. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 104 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. Fresh thermal paste should be applied whenever a processor is fitted or refitted. A 350W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink.
