The Intel Xeon Platinum 8468V has 48 cores and 96 threads, a 2.40GHz base clock with boost to 3.80GHz, 97.5MB of cache and a 330W TDP. Part of the 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors line, it uses its platform socket and addresses up to 4TB of memory at 4800MHz DDR5.
In a two-socket server both processors must be the same model; check the server's supported processor list, BIOS level and heatsink rating for a 330W part before fitting. In most dual-socket servers the second processor also brings its own memory channels and expansion lanes into play. Its S-spec, SRM7C, pins down the exact stepping. Per-core software licensing makes core count a cost decision as well as a performance one. Fresh thermal paste should be applied whenever a processor is fitted or refitted. A 330W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 96 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure.
