With 48 cores (96 threads) at a 2.10GHz base clock, boosting to 3.80GHz, the Intel Xeon Platinum 8468 carries 105MB of cache and is rated at 350W. Part of the 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors line, it uses its platform socket and addresses up to 4TB of memory at 4800MHz DDR5.
Platinum-tier chips target the heaviest consolidation, database and HPC work. Dual-socket servers need two of the same model; the server's processor support list and BIOS level decide whether this one is accepted. Adding a second processor also opens up the memory channels and PCIe lanes attached to that socket. Its S-spec, SRM76, pins down the exact stepping.
