The Intel Xeon Platinum 8444H has 16 cores and 32 threads, a 2.90GHz base clock with boost to 4.00GHz, 45MB of cache and a 270W TDP. Part of the 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors line, it uses its platform socket and addresses up to 4TB of memory at 4800MHz DDR5.
Per-core software licensing makes core count a cost decision as well as a performance one. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 32 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. Apply fresh thermal paste each time the processor is seated. A 270W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink. In most dual-socket servers the second processor also brings its own memory channels and expansion lanes into play.
