Intel Xeon Platinum 8280L 28-Core 2.70GHz Server Processor

With 28 cores (56 threads) at a 2.70GHz base clock, boosting to 4.00GHz, the Intel Xeon Platinum 8280L carries 38.5MB of cache and is rated at 205W. Part of the 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors line, it uses Socket 3647 and addresses up to 4.5TB of memory at 2933MHz DDR4.

With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 56 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. Clean off old thermal compound and apply fresh paste when fitting it. A 205W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink. In most dual-socket servers the second processor also brings its own memory channels and expansion lanes into play. Its S-spec, SRF9R, pins down the exact stepping. Platinum-tier chips target the heaviest consolidation, database and HPC work. In a two-socket server both processors must be the same model; check the server's supported processor list, BIOS level and heatsink rating for a 205W part before fitting.
