Intel Xeon Platinum 8170 26-Core 2.10GHz Server Processor

With 26 cores (52 threads) at a 2.10GHz base clock, boosting to 3.70GHz, the Intel Xeon Platinum 8170 carries 35.75MB of cache and is rated at 165W. Part of the 1st Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors line, it uses Socket 3647 and addresses up to 768GB of memory at 2666MHz DDR4.

Adding a second processor also opens up the memory channels and PCIe lanes attached to that socket. Its S-spec, SR37H, pins down the exact stepping. As a Platinum-tier part it is aimed at large databases and dense virtualisation. Dual-socket servers need two of the same model; the server's processor support list and BIOS level decide whether this one is accepted. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 52 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. Fresh thermal paste should be applied whenever a processor is fitted or refitted. A 165W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink.
