This Intel Xeon Gold 6542Y runs 24 cores at 2.90GHz (up to 4.10GHz on boost), with 60MB of cache in a 250W power envelope. Part of the 5th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors line, it uses its platform socket and addresses up to 4TB of memory at 5200MHz DDR5.
With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 48 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. Fresh thermal paste should be applied whenever a processor is fitted or refitted. A 250W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink. Adding a second processor also opens up the memory channels and PCIe lanes attached to that socket. Its S-spec, SRN6P, pins down the exact stepping.
