The Intel Xeon Gold 5420 has 28 cores and 56 threads, a 2.00GHz base clock with boost to 4.10GHz, 52.5MB of cache and a 205W TDP. Part of the 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors line, it uses its platform socket and addresses up to 4TB of memory at 4800MHz DDR5.
Its S-spec, SRMGL, pins down the exact stepping. Gold-tier parts balance core count and clock speed for virtualisation and database servers. Dual-socket servers need two of the same model; the server's processor support list and BIOS level decide whether this one is accepted. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 56 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure.
