The Intel Xeon Gold 5120 has 14 cores and 28 threads, a 2.20GHz base clock with boost to 3.20GHz, 19.25MB of cache and a 105W TDP. Part of the 1st Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors line, it uses Socket 3647 and addresses up to 768GB of memory at 2400MHz DDR4.
Per-core software licensing makes core count a cost decision as well as a performance one. Adding a second processor also opens up the memory channels and PCIe lanes attached to that socket.
