The Intel Xeon Gold 5115 has 10 cores and 20 threads, a 2.40GHz base clock with boost to 3.20GHz, 13.75MB of cache and a 85W TDP. Part of the 1st Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors line, it uses Socket 3647 and addresses up to 768GB of memory at 2400MHz DDR4.
Clean off old thermal compound and apply fresh paste when fitting it. A 85W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 20 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. A Gold-tier chip suits mainstream virtualisation and database hosts. Dual-socket servers need two of the same model; the server's processor support list and BIOS level decide whether this one is accepted.
