This Intel Xeon E7-4809 v3 runs 8 cores at 2.00GHz (up to 2.00GHz on boost), with 20MB of cache in a 115W power envelope. Part of the Intel server line, it uses LGA2011 and addresses up to 1.5TB of memory at 1866DDR4 / 1600DDR3.
In a two-socket server both processors must be the same model; check the server's supported processor list, BIOS level and heatsink rating for a 115W part before fitting. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 16 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. Apply fresh thermal paste each time the processor is seated. A 115W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink. Per-core software licensing makes core count a cost decision as well as a performance one. Adding a second processor also opens up the memory channels and PCIe lanes attached to that socket.
