With 18 cores (36 threads) at a 2.30GHz base clock, boosting to 3.60GHz, the Intel Xeon E5-2697 v4 carries 45MB of cache and is rated at 145W. Part of the Intel Xeon E5-2600 V4 Processors line, it uses LGA2011 3 and addresses up to 1.5TB of memory at 2400MHz DDR4.

It suits general-purpose server duty on its platform. Dual-socket servers need two of the same model; the server's processor support list and BIOS level decide whether this one is accepted. A second socket populated means a second set of memory channels and expansion lanes becomes usable. Its S-spec, SR2JV, pins down the exact stepping. Apply fresh thermal paste each time the processor is seated. A 145W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink.
