The Intel Xeon E5-2695 v4 has 18 cores and 36 threads, a 2.10GHz base clock with boost to 3.30GHz, 45MB of cache and a 120W TDP. Part of the Intel Xeon E5-2600 V4 Processors line, it uses LGA2011 3 and addresses up to 1.5TB of memory at 2400MHz DDR4.

Per-core software licensing makes core count a cost decision as well as a performance one. Adding a second processor also opens up the memory channels and PCIe lanes attached to that socket. Its S-spec, SR2J1, pins down the exact stepping. It suits general-purpose server duty on its platform. Pair it with an identical processor in dual-socket systems, and confirm the heatsink and BIOS support a 120W chip before installing. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 36 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. Clean off old thermal compound and apply fresh paste when fitting it. A 120W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink.
