Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 8-Core 2.40GHz Server Processor

With 8 cores (16 threads) at a 2.40GHz base clock, boosting to 3.20GHz, the Intel Xeon E5-2630 v3 carries 20MB of cache and is rated at 85W. Part of the Intel Xeon E5-2600 V3 Processors line, it uses LGA2011 3 and addresses up to 768GB of memory at 1866MHz DDR4.

A 85W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink. Adding a second processor also opens up the memory channels and PCIe lanes attached to that socket. Its S-spec, SR206, pins down the exact stepping. It suits general-purpose server duty on its platform. Dual-socket servers need two of the same model; the server's processor support list and BIOS level decide whether this one is accepted. Per-core software licensing makes core count a cost decision as well as a performance one. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 16 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. Fresh thermal paste should be applied whenever a processor is fitted or refitted.
