Intel Xeon E5-2609 v4 8-Core 1.70GHz Server Processor

The Intel Xeon E5-2609 v4 has 8 cores and 8 threads, a 1.70GHz base clock with boost to 1.70GHz, 20MB of cache and a 85W TDP. Part of the Intel Xeon E5-2600 V4 Processors line, it uses LGA2011 3 and addresses up to 1.5TB of memory at 1866MHz DDR4.

Per-core software licensing makes core count a cost decision as well as a performance one. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 8 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. Fresh thermal paste should be applied whenever a processor is fitted or refitted. A 85W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink. A second socket populated means a second set of memory channels and expansion lanes becomes usable. Its S-spec, SR2P1, pins down the exact stepping. It suits general-purpose server duty on its platform.
