Intel Xeon E-2378 8-Core 2.60GHz Server Processor

This Intel Xeon E-2378 runs 8 cores at 2.60GHz (up to 4.80GHz on boost), with 16MB of cache in a 65W power envelope. Part of the Intel server line, it uses FCLGA1200 and addresses up to 128GB of memory at 3200MHz DDR4.

Per-core software licensing makes core count a cost decision as well as a performance one. Fresh thermal paste should be applied whenever a processor is fitted or refitted. A 65W processor needs a heatsink rated for its power, and higher-TDP parts may need the server’s high-performance heatsink. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 16 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. It suits general-purpose server duty on its platform. Dual-socket servers need two of the same model; the server's processor support list and BIOS level decide whether this one is accepted. Adding a second processor also opens up the memory channels and PCIe lanes attached to that socket.
