This Intel Xeon 2640 runs 6 cores at 2.50GHz (up to 3.00GHz on boost), with 15MB of cache in a 95W power envelope. Part of the Intel Xeon E5-2600 V1 Processors line, it uses LGA2011 and addresses up to 384GB of memory at 1333MHz DDR3.
Per-core software licensing makes core count a cost decision as well as a performance one. With simultaneous multithreading enabled, it presents 12 threads to the operating system. Boost clocks apply when thermal and power headroom allow; the base clock is the sustained figure. Fresh thermal paste should be applied whenever a processor is fitted or refitted.
