Twelve 3.84TB SAS SSDs populate this Dell PowerVault ME4024 2U storage array. Raw capacity is 46.08TB; twelve bays of the 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis are still free.
The enclosure is fitted with two SAS controllers with 8GB of cache each and dual 584W power supplies. You also get rack rails.
Dual SAS controllers let the PowerVault ME4024 serve block storage to more than one host, which suits clustered hypervisors and shared database storage. Set up as RAID 10, the twelve drives keep half their raw space and stay mirrored. With a redundant pair of supplies, each can sit on its own power circuit. The open bays leave room to add drives later in the same chassis. With two controllers and multipath configured on the hosts, the array can ride through the loss of one controller.
Where hard-disk builds of the ME4024 favour capacity, this one favours responsiveness with flash storage. It carries more raw storage than the smaller ME4024 configurations.
