Twelve 2.4TB 10K SAS hard drives populate this Dell PowerVault ME4024 2U storage array. Raw capacity is 28.8TB; twelve bays of the 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis are still free.
The enclosure is fitted with two SAS controllers with 8GB of cache each and dual 584W power supplies. You also get rack rails.
Dual SAS controllers let the PowerVault ME4024 serve block storage to more than one host, which suits clustered hypervisors and shared database storage. With twelve drives, RAID 6 keeps ten drives' worth of capacity and survives two simultaneous drive failures. The open bays leave room to add drives later in the same chassis.
Flash builds of the ME4024 respond faster; this one is the capacity choice. It carries more raw storage than the smaller ME4024 configurations.
