This Dell PowerVault ME4012 is a 2U storage array populated with six 16TB 7.2K SAS hard drives. Together they give 96TB raw, occupying six bays of the 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis and leaving six free.
The enclosure is fitted with two SAS controllers with 8GB of cache each and dual 584W power supplies. You also get rack rails.
Dual SAS controllers let the PowerVault ME4012 serve block storage to more than one host, which suits clustered hypervisors and shared database storage. With six drives, RAID 6 keeps four drives' worth of capacity and survives two simultaneous drive failures. Two power supplies let the machine run from separate power feeds. The open bays leave room to add drives later in the same chassis. With two controllers and multipath configured on the hosts, the array can ride through the loss of one controller.
It holds twice the raw capacity of a smaller ME4012 configuration.
Our Johannesburg team inspects and bench-tests the array and wipes any stored data before it is released as certified refurbished.
