Twelve 4TB 7.2K SAS hard drives populate this Dell PowerVault ME4012 2U storage array. That comes to 48TB of raw capacity, filling every bay of the 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis.
Behind the drives sit two SAS controllers with 8GB of cache each and dual 584W power supplies. Also included: a rack rail kit.
With dual SAS controllers, the PowerVault ME4012 presents shared block storage to several hosts; typical uses are a small virtualisation cluster or consolidated file and database storage. Planned as RAID 6, the twelve drives leave ten drives' worth of usable space with double parity. A dual-controller layout is designed so the array stays reachable if one controller fails, provided the hosts are set up with multipath. Two power supplies let the machine run from separate power feeds.
Raw capacity is twice that of a smaller ME4012 build.
This certified refurbished array has been inspected and bench-tested in Johannesburg, with any stored data wiped.
