Configured with twelve 18TB 7.2K SAS hard drives, this Dell PowerVault ME4012 is a 2U storage array for shared block storage. That comes to 216TB of raw capacity with all bays of the 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis populated.
The enclosure is fitted with two SAS controllers with 8GB of cache each and dual 584W power supplies. You also get rack rails.
Dual SAS controllers let the PowerVault ME4012 serve block storage to more than one host, which suits clustered hypervisors and shared database storage. Planned as RAID 6, the twelve drives leave ten drives' worth of usable space with double parity. With a redundant pair of supplies, each can sit on its own power circuit.
It carries more raw storage than the smaller ME4012 configurations.
Sold as certified refurbished, the array passes inspection and a bench test, and has its storage wiped, in Johannesburg before release.
