Twelve 16TB 7.2K SAS hard drives populate this Dell PowerVault ME4012 2U storage array. Together they give 192TB raw with all bays of the 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis populated.
The enclosure is fitted with two SAS controllers with 8GB of cache each and dual 584W power supplies. Also included: rack rails.
Dual SAS controllers let the PowerVault ME4012 serve block storage to more than one host, which suits clustered hypervisors and shared database storage. RAID 6 across all twelve drives would keep ten drives' worth of space and tolerate two drive failures. Dual power supplies mean one can fail, or one feed can drop, without taking the machine down. With two controllers and multipath configured on the hosts, the array can ride through the loss of one controller.
It carries more raw storage than the smaller ME4012 configurations.
Condition is certified refurbished, and each array is inspected, bench-tested and wiped in Johannesburg.
