This Dell PowerVault MD1420 is a 2U storage array populated with 24 3.84TB SAS SSDs. Together they give 92.16TB raw, filling every bay of the 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis.
Behind the drives sit two SAS enclosure management modules and dual 600W power supplies. You also get a rack rail kit.
The PowerVault MD1420 is a direct-attached expansion shelf: its two SAS enclosure management modules link to a SAS host bus adapter or external RAID controller in the server, adding a 24-bay 2.5-inch shelf of capacity without replacing the host. Usable space depends on the RAID level chosen for the 24 drives. With two enclosure management modules, the shelf can be cabled to two host ports for redundant paths. Two power supplies let the machine run from separate power feeds.
Compared with a hard-disk build of the same MD1420, this all-flash configuration trades raw capacity for much lower storage latency. Raw capacity is twice that of a smaller MD1420 build.
Our Johannesburg team inspects and bench-tests the array and wipes any stored data before it is released as certified refurbished.
