Configured with twelve 800GB SAS SSDs, this Dell PowerVault MD1420 is a 2U storage array for direct-attached expansion storage. Raw capacity is 9.6TB in twelve bays of the 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis, so twelve remain open for expansion.
The enclosure is fitted with two SAS enclosure management modules and dual 600W power supplies. You also get rack rails.
Use it to grow an existing server's storage: the two enclosure management modules connect the 24-bay 2.5-inch shelf to an external SAS port on the host. How much of the raw space is usable depends on the RAID level set across the twelve drives. The open bays leave room to add drives later in the same chassis.
Where hard-disk builds of the MD1420 favour capacity, this one favours responsiveness with flash storage. It carries more raw storage than the smaller MD1420 configurations.
It is supplied certified refurbished: inspected, bench-tested and data-wiped in Johannesburg before release.
