Configured with twelve 300GB 15K SAS hard drives, this Dell PowerVault MD1420 is a 2U storage array for direct-attached expansion storage. Together they give 3.6TB raw in twelve bays of the 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis, so twelve remain open for expansion.
The enclosure is fitted with two SAS enclosure management modules and dual 600W power supplies. The configuration also lists rack rails.
Use it to grow an existing server's storage: the two enclosure management modules connect the 24-bay 2.5-inch shelf to an external SAS port on the host. How much of the raw space is usable depends on the RAID level set across the twelve drives.
Flash builds of the MD1420 respond faster; this one is the capacity choice.
Sold as certified refurbished, the array passes inspection and a bench test, and has its storage wiped, in Johannesburg before release.
