Twelve 1.2TB 10K SAS hard drives populate this Dell PowerVault MD1420 2U storage array. Together they give 14.4TB raw; twelve bays of the 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis are still free.
The enclosure is fitted with two SAS enclosure management modules and dual 600W power supplies. You also get rack rails.
Use it to grow an existing server's storage: the two enclosure management modules connect the 24-bay 2.5-inch shelf to an external SAS port on the host. How much of the raw space is usable depends on the RAID level set across the twelve drives. The open bays leave room to add drives later in the same chassis. The second enclosure management module allows a redundant cable path to the host.
Flash builds of the MD1420 respond faster; this one is the capacity choice. It holds half as much again as the raw capacity of a smaller MD1420 configuration.
This certified refurbished array has been inspected and bench-tested in Johannesburg, with any stored data wiped.
