Dell PowerVault MD1400 2U Storage Array — 3× 4TB 7.2K SAS, 12-Bay LFF, Dual SAS EMMs

Three 4TB 7.2K SAS hard drives populate this Dell PowerVault MD1400 2U storage array. Raw capacity is 12TB in three bays of the 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis, so nine remain open for expansion.

The enclosure is fitted with two SAS enclosure management modules (4-port 12Gbps SAS each) and dual 600W power supplies. You also get rack rails.

Use it to grow an existing server's storage: the two enclosure management modules connect the 12-bay 3.5-inch shelf to an external SAS port on the host. How much of the raw space is usable depends on the RAID level set across the three drives. The open bays leave room to add drives later in the same chassis. The second enclosure management module allows a redundant cable path to the host. With a redundant pair of supplies, each can sit on its own power circuit.

Sold as certified refurbished, the array passes inspection and a bench test, and has its storage wiped, in Johannesburg before release.
