Configured with twelve 10TB 7.2K SAS hard drives, this Dell PowerVault MD1400 is a 2U storage array for direct-attached expansion storage. Together they give 120TB raw, filling every bay of the 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis.
Behind the drives sit two SAS enclosure management modules (4-port 12Gbps SAS each) and dual 600W power supplies. Also included: a rack rail kit.
The PowerVault MD1400 is a direct-attached expansion shelf: its two SAS enclosure management modules link to a SAS host bus adapter or external RAID controller in the server, adding a 12-bay 3.5-inch shelf of capacity without replacing the host. Usable space depends on the RAID level chosen for the twelve drives.
Raw capacity is higher than in the smaller MD1400 builds.
It is supplied certified refurbished: inspected, bench-tested and data-wiped in Johannesburg before release.
