Configured as a tower server, this Dell PowerEdge T440 combines two Intel Xeon Silver 4116 processors (12 cores each, 2.10GHz base clock) with 64GB of DDR4 memory. The drive complement is two 4TB 7.2K SAS hard drives, 8TB before RAID, occupying two bays of the 8-bay 3.5-inch chassis and leaving six free. A BOSS card with two 240GB M.2 SATA SSDs is fitted for the operating system, keeping the front bays for data.
The build is rounded out by PERC H730P hardware RAID (2GB cache), dual-port 1GbE RJ45 networking (Broadcom 5720) and dual 750W power supplies. You also get an iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for out-of-band management.
With 8TB of raw capacity, it makes a natural backup repository, archive tier or departmental file server, and 24 cores and 64GB are ample for the storage services that run on it. The two drives pair naturally as a RAID 1 mirror.
