Configured as a tower server, this Dell PowerEdge T440 combines a pair of Intel Xeon Silver 4114 chips (2.20GHz, 10 cores each) with 32GB of DDR4. It carries two 4TB 7.2K SAS hard drives for 8TB of raw capacity; six bays of the 8-bay 3.5-inch chassis are still free. Two 240GB M.2 SATA SSDs on a BOSS card handle the operating system, separate from the data drives.
The build is rounded out by PERC H730P hardware RAID (2GB cache), dual-port 1GbE RJ45 networking (Broadcom 5720) and dual 750W power supplies. You also get an iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for out-of-band management.
With 8TB of raw capacity, it makes a natural backup repository, archive tier or departmental file server, and 20 cores and 32GB are ample for the storage services that run on it. The two drives pair naturally as a RAID 1 mirror.
It is one of the lighter-memory T440 builds; a configuration with more memory is the step up for memory-bound workloads. Raw capacity is twice that of a smaller T440 build.
Condition is certified refurbished, and each server is inspected, bench-tested and wiped in Johannesburg.
