Two 12-core Intel Xeon Gold 5118 CPUs at 2.30GHz and 128GB of DDR4 power this Dell PowerEdge T440 tower server. Storage comes as eight 4TB 7.2K SAS hard drives, 32TB raw with all bays of the 8-bay 3.5-inch chassis populated. A BOSS card with two 240GB M.2 SATA SSDs is fitted for the operating system, keeping the front bays for data.
A PERC H730P RAID controller with 2GB of cache, dual-port 1GbE RJ45 networking (Broadcom 5720) and dual 750W power supplies complete the specification. Also included: iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management.
The capacity-first layout suits backup targets, media libraries and large file shares, where raw terabytes matter more than random I/O. Planned as RAID 6, the eight drives leave six drives' worth of usable space with double parity.
Memory here is twice that of a lighter T440 configuration, leaving more headroom for memory-bound work. The Gold processors are a tier up from the entry T440 builds.
