This Dell PowerEdge R930 is a 4U rack server built around four Intel Xeon E7-8890 v3 chips (2.50GHz, 18 cores each) and 512GB of DDR4 memory. It carries two 1.92TB SAS SSDs for 3.84TB of raw capacity; 22 bays of the 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis are still free.
Around that sit a PERC H730P RAID controller with 2GB of cache, 2 × 1GbE RJ45 + 2 × 10GbE SFP+ networking (Broadcom 57800S) and four 1100W power supplies. Also included: iDRAC8 Enterprise remote management and rack rails.
Flash throughout means quick random reads and writes, which is what SQL servers, VDI hosts and busy application servers lean on. Two identical drives make a straightforward RAID 1 mirror for resilience. Dual power supplies mean one can fail, or one feed can drop, without taking the machine down. The open bays leave room to add drives later in the same chassis.
