Configured as a 2U rack server, this Dell PowerEdge R840 combines four Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 chips (2.50GHz, 28 cores each) with 256GB of DDR4 RAM. It carries eight 1.92TB SATA SSDs for 15.36TB of raw capacity, filling every bay of the 8-bay 2.5-inch chassis.
The build is rounded out by PERC H740P hardware RAID (8GB cache), quad-port 10GbE RJ45 networking (Intel X550-T4) and dual 1600W power supplies. The configuration also lists an iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for out-of-band management and a rack rail kit.
112 cores and 256GB with all-flash storage make it a strong match for SQL databases, busy virtual machines and other latency-sensitive work. RAID 10 across the eight drives would keep four drives' worth of space while mirroring every write.
