Four 16-core Intel Xeon Gold 5218 CPUs at 2.30GHz and 256GB of DDR4 RAM power this Dell PowerEdge R840 2U rack server. Storage comes as eight 1.2TB 10K SAS hard drives, 9.6TB raw with all bays of the 8-bay 2.5-inch chassis populated.
A PERC H740P RAID controller with 8GB of cache, quad-port 10GbE RJ45 networking (Intel X550-T4) and dual 1600W power supplies complete the specification. You also get iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management and rack rails.
Sized at 64 cores and 256GB, it is built for a large virtual-machine estate or a demanding database. RAID 6 across all eight drives would keep six drives' worth of space and tolerate two drive failures. Remote management lets an administrator reach the console and hardware health even when the operating system is down.
