Configured as a 2U rack server, this Dell PowerEdge R760xs combines a pair of Intel Xeon Silver 4509Y chips (2.60GHz, 8 cores each) with 128GB of DDR5 memory. Storage comes as two 8TB 7.2K SAS hard drives, 16TB raw, occupying two bays of the 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis and leaving ten free. The operating system gets its own home on a BOSS card carrying two 480GB M.2 NVMe SSDs.
The build is rounded out by PERC H755 hardware RAID (8GB cache), 2 × 10GbE SFP+ networking (Broadcom 57412) and dual 1400W power supplies. You also get an iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for out-of-band management and a rack rail kit.
With 16TB of raw capacity, it makes a natural backup repository, archive tier or departmental file server, and 16 cores and 128GB are ample for the storage services that run on it. The two drives pair naturally as a RAID 1 mirror.
