Configured as a 2U rack server, this Dell PowerEdge R760xs combines two 16-core Intel Xeon Gold 6526Y CPUs at 2.80GHz with 256GB of DDR5 RAM. Storage comes as eight 1.92TB SAS SSDs, 15.36TB raw, filling every bay of the 8-bay 2.5-inch chassis.
The build is rounded out by PERC H755 hardware RAID (8GB cache), dual-port 10GbE RJ45 networking (Intel X710-T2L) and dual 1100W power supplies. Also included: an iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for out-of-band management and a rack rail kit.
32 cores and 256GB with all-flash storage make it a strong match for SQL databases, busy virtual machines and other latency-sensitive work. RAID 10 across the eight drives would keep four drives' worth of space while mirroring every write.
Compared with a hard-disk build of the same R760xs, this all-flash configuration trades raw capacity for much lower storage latency. That is twice the memory of a lighter R760xs build, which matters most for virtual machines and caching.
Sold as certified refurbished, the server passes inspection and a bench test, and has its storage wiped, in Johannesburg before release.
