Configured as a 2U rack server, this Dell PowerEdge R7525 combines a pair of AMD EPYC 7513 chips (2.60GHz, 32 cores each) with 256GB of DDR4 RAM. It carries twelve 8TB 7.2K SATA hard drives for 96TB of raw capacity, filling every bay of the 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis. A BOSS card with two 480GB M.2 SATA SSDs is fitted for the operating system, keeping the front bays for data.
The build is rounded out by PERC H755 hardware RAID (8GB cache), dual-port 10GbE RJ45 networking (Broadcom 57416) and dual 1400W power supplies. The configuration also lists an iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for out-of-band management and a rack rail kit.
With 96TB of raw capacity, it makes a natural backup repository, archive tier or departmental file server, and 64 cores and 256GB are ample for the storage services that run on it. With twelve drives, RAID 6 keeps ten drives' worth of capacity and survives two simultaneous drive failures.
