Configured as a 2U rack server, this Dell PowerEdge R7525 combines two AMD EPYC 7413 processors (24 cores each, 2.65GHz base clock) with 64GB of DDR4 RAM. Storage comes as two 4TB 7.2K SAS hard drives, 8TB raw, occupying two bays of the 12-bay 3.5-inch chassis and leaving ten free. A BOSS card with two 480GB M.2 SATA SSDs is fitted for the operating system, keeping the front bays for data.
The build is rounded out by PERC H755 hardware RAID (8GB cache), dual-port 10GbE RJ45 networking (Broadcom 57416) and dual 1400W power supplies. Also included: an iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for out-of-band management and a rack rail kit.
With 8TB of raw capacity, it makes a natural backup repository, archive tier or departmental file server, and 48 cores and 64GB are ample for the storage services that run on it. The two drives pair naturally as a RAID 1 mirror.
Against an all-flash R7525 build, this configuration favours capacity over latency. It is one of the lighter-memory R7525 builds; a configuration with more memory is the step up for memory-bound workloads.
