Configured as a 2U rack server, this Dell PowerEdge R750xs combines two Intel Xeon Gold 6330 processors (28 cores each, 2.00GHz base clock) with 256GB of DDR4. It carries 16 1.2TB 10K SAS hard drives for 19.2TB of raw capacity; eight bays of the 24-bay 2.5-inch chassis are still free.
The build is rounded out by PERC H755 hardware RAID (8GB cache), dual-port 1GbE RJ45 networking (Broadcom 5720) and dual 800W power supplies. You also get an iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for out-of-band management and a rack rail kit.
With 19.2TB of raw capacity, it makes a natural backup repository, archive tier or departmental file server, and 56 cores and 256GB are ample for the storage services that run on it. Planned as RAID 6, the 16 drives leave 14 drives' worth of usable space with double parity.
