This Dell PowerEdge R750 is a 2U rack server built around two 32-core Intel Xeon Gold 6338 CPUs at 2.00GHz and 256GB of DDR4. It carries four 2.4TB 10K SAS hard drives for 9.6TB of raw capacity; twelve bays of the 16-bay 2.5-inch chassis are still free.
Around that sit a PERC H755 RAID controller with 8GB of cache, 2 × 10GbE SFP+ networking (Broadcom 57412) and dual 1400W power supplies. Also included: iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management and rack rails.
A host of this size can carry many modest virtual machines, or a few very large ones, on 64 cores and 256GB. With four drives, RAID 6 keeps two drives' worth of capacity and survives two simultaneous drive failures.
