Configured as a 2U rack server, this Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 combines two 18-core Intel Xeon Gold 6240 CPUs at 2.60GHz with 128GB of DDR4 RAM. It carries eight 12TB 7.2K SATA hard drives for 96TB of raw capacity, occupying eight bays of the 24-bay 3.5-inch chassis and leaving 16 free. Two 240GB M.2 SATA SSDs on a BOSS card handle the operating system, separate from the data drives.
The build is rounded out by PERC H730P hardware RAID (2GB cache), dual-port 1GbE RJ45 networking (Broadcom 5720) and dual 1100W power supplies. You also get an iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for out-of-band management and a rack rail kit.
