A pair of Intel Xeon Gold 6248 chips (2.50GHz, 20 cores each) and 256GB of DDR4 memory power this Dell PowerEdge R740 2U rack server. Storage comes as eight 2.4TB 10K SAS hard drives, 19.2TB raw in eight bays of the 16-bay 2.5-inch chassis, so eight remain open for expansion.
A PERC H740P RAID controller with 8GB of cache, dual-port 10GbE RJ45 networking (Intel X550) and dual 1100W power supplies complete the specification. You also get iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management and rack rails.
The capacity-first layout suits backup targets, media libraries and large file shares, where raw terabytes matter more than random I/O. Planned as RAID 6, the eight drives leave six drives' worth of usable space with double parity.
Flash builds of the R740 respond faster; this one is the capacity choice. Memory here is twice that of a lighter R740 configuration, leaving more headroom for memory-bound work.
