Here the Dell PowerEdge R650xs 1U rack server comes with two 20-core Intel Xeon Silver 4316 CPUs at 2.30GHz alongside 128GB of DDR4 memory. It carries four 8TB 7.2K SAS hard drives for 32TB of raw capacity, filling every bay of the 4-bay 3.5-inch chassis. A BOSS card with two 240GB M.2 SATA SSDs is fitted for the operating system, keeping the front bays for data.
Supporting hardware includes PERC H755 hardware RAID (8GB cache), dual-port 1GbE RJ45 networking (Broadcom 5720) and dual 600W power supplies. Also included: an iDRAC9 Enterprise licence for out-of-band management and a rack rail kit.
Roles that fit well include backup and replication targets, video and media archives, and file servers holding years of data. Planned as RAID 6, the four drives leave two drives' worth of usable space with double parity.
