A pair of Intel Xeon Gold 5317 chips (3.00GHz, 12 cores each) and 128GB of DDR4 memory power this Dell PowerEdge R650 1U rack server. It carries two 3.84TB NVMe SSDs for 7.68TB of raw capacity in two bays of the 10-bay 2.5-inch chassis, so eight remain open for expansion.
PERC S150 software RAID, dual-port 25GbE SFP28 networking (Intel E810-XXV) and dual 1400W power supplies complete the specification. Also included: iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management and rack rails.
All-flash drives keep storage latency low, so the 24 cores and 128GB can be put to work on transactional databases, analytics or a dense set of virtual machines. Two identical drives make a straightforward RAID 1 mirror for resilience. Out-of-band management means the machine can be powered on, monitored and reconfigured without anyone on site.
Where hard-disk builds of the R650 favour capacity, this one favours responsiveness with flash storage. Memory here is twice that of a lighter R650 configuration, leaving more headroom for memory-bound work.
