Two Intel Xeon Gold 5318N processors (24 cores each, 2.10GHz base clock) and 64GB of DDR4 RAM power this Dell PowerEdge R450 1U rack server. The drive complement is eight 1.2TB 10K SAS hard drives, 9.6TB before RAID with all bays of the 8-bay 2.5-inch chassis populated.
A PERC H755 RAID controller with 8GB of cache, dual-port 1GbE RJ45 networking (Broadcom 5720) and dual 600W power supplies complete the specification. Also included: iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management and rack rails.
It is a balanced platform for a small virtualisation cluster, line-of-business applications or a mid-sized database. Planned as RAID 6, the eight drives leave six drives' worth of usable space with double parity.
Flash builds of the R450 respond faster; this one is the capacity choice. Memory here is twice that of a lighter R450 configuration, leaving more headroom for memory-bound work.
