Dell PERC H730P 2GB NV Cache Low-Profile PCIe RAID Controller

The PERC H730P is a low profile RAID controller with 2GB of non-volatile cache.

Disk and array health show up in the server’s hardware management logs. Controllers of the same family can usually take over an existing array from its drives, but check firmware levels before swapping one for another. Drives connect through the server’s backplane, so the controller has to suit the backplane it is cabled to. As a Dell PERC it is intended for PowerEdge servers; check your server’s supported controller list. It is the low-profile PCIe card form of the controller. Set-up happens in the controller’s pre-boot utility, and arrays can be managed later from the operating system. With RAID handled on the card, the host sees plain volumes and spends no processor time on parity. Because the cache is non-volatile, cached writes are designed to survive a power cut, so write-back mode can stay on.
