Dell PERC H730 1GB NV Cache Mini-Mono RAID Controller

The PERC H730 is a mini mono RAID controller with 1GB of non-volatile cache.

With RAID handled on the card, the host sees plain volumes and spends no processor time on parity. Because the cache is non-volatile, cached writes are designed to survive a power cut, so write-back mode can stay on. The Mini Mono format sits in its own motherboard slot, so no PCIe slot is used. Arrays are created and managed from the controller’s pre-boot utility or from management software in the operating system. Controllers of the same family can usually take over an existing array from its drives, but check firmware levels before swapping one for another. As a Dell PERC it is intended for PowerEdge servers; check your server’s supported controller list. Drives connect through the server’s backplane, so the controller has to suit the backplane it is cabled to. Disk and array health show up in the server’s hardware management logs.
