Dell PERC H730 1GB Cache RAID Controller

The PERC H730 is a RAID controller with 1GB of cache.

Disk and array health show up in the server’s hardware management logs. Controllers of the same family can usually take over an existing array from its drives, but check firmware levels before swapping one for another. Drives connect through the server’s backplane, so the controller has to suit the backplane it is cabled to. Hardware RAID offloads parity calculations from the host and presents the array to the operating system as ordinary volumes. Set-up happens in the controller’s pre-boot utility, and arrays can be managed later from the operating system.
